Aston Villa fans have made it clear on Twitter that Matt Targett is deserving of a new contract after rumours emerge.
The Athletic claim that Aston Villa are in talks with the 25-year-old over extending his stay in B6.
Targett has been a regular for Villa ever since he swapped Southampton for the Midlands for £11 million (Sky Sports) during the summer of the club’s promotion.
Near-on every Villa player, barring Jack Grealish and Tom Heaton, had a troublesome campaign last season.
The defensive issues were there for all to see, with the back four looking abject at times and potentially worthy of going down.
But, since football returned after the first lockdown, many Villa players have looked completely different performers, no more so than their left-back.
It could be argued that Targett is Villa’s most improved player, with Ezri Konsa and Douglas Luiz, his two only challengers for that prize.
But one thing is for sure, Villa fans are in agreement that if Targett does pen a new deal then it is deserving.
