Garth Crooks named Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane in his Premier League team of the week on BBC Sport after his performance against Manchester City on Saturday.
Jose Mourinho delivered a tactical masterclass against his arch-nemesis Pep Guardiola and came out as the deserved winner. Tottenham stuck to their game-plan brilliantly, and Kane played a key part.
The Englishman, for once, didn’t score, but he did everything else. Kane’s movement for the first goal caused confusion in City’s defence and Son Heung-min saw himself through thanks to that.
The England skipper also played a big part in the second goal. He received the ball and drove into City’s half before threading a wonderful pass into the path of Giovani Lo Celso, who buried it to give Spurs the win.
Crooks was hugely impressed with Kane’s performance against Manchester City. He picked the Spurs star over the likes of Pedro Neto, Richarlison, Sebastien Haller and Tammy Abraham, who all fared well for their respective sides this week.
He said: “Kane wasn’t on the scoresheet but his influence on the outcome of the match was unmistakable. The England captain’s movement seemed to bamboozle City and help set up Son Heung-min’s opening goal before providing the most glorious through ball for Tottenham’s second, which put the game well beyond the visitors.”

Kane started the game as a striker but he was everywhere. The Spurs star has dropped into a number 10 role in previous games but, against City, he found himself even deeper – sometimes in his own box.
This new role has shown us a whole new side of Kane. His finishing and movement while leading the line were his strong points, but his vision, passing and work-rate have taken him to a whole new level.
Mourinho has transformed Kane into a more complete player. The Englishman was viewed by Spurs fans as the best striker in the Premier League. But his all-round contribution might just make him the best player in the division.
