Paulo Fonseca looks to be nearing a decision to stay at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Shakhtar Donestk boss Paulo Fonseca has told the club’s official website that talks are underway over a new contract with the club.
Fonseca, 45, found himself on the scrapheap in 2014 when he was sacked by Porto, but he rebuilt his reputation with Pacos Ferreira and Braga before heading to Shakhtar in 2016.
The Portuguese boss won a domestic double with Shakhtar last season before claiming the Ukrainian Super Cup last summer, and he has now guided his side into the final of this season’s Ukrainian Cup and is also on the verge of another league title.
Having guided Shakhtar into the last 16 of the Champions League, Fonseca’s stock has never been higher, and some may feel that he has already achieved all he can with Shakhtar.
Fonseca’s exploits have seen him attract major attention, as The Mirror recently reported that he is Everton’s top choice to replace Sam Allardyce this summer, with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri desperate to land him.
However, Moshiri’s dream may well be fading fast, as Fonseca has told the club’s official website that whilst there is no deadline for his decision on whether to stay or go, talks are underway over a new contract to stay at the Donboss Arena.
“There’s no deadline or a fixed date. Negotiations are underway,” said Fonseca.
Fonseca’s comments come after O Jogo reported that he wants to leave Shakhtar in pursuit of a job in England, and Everton’s hopes may now be dwindling if Fonseca really is in talks over a new deal.
