Everton are pushing ahead with their planned move for Arsenal forward Theo Walcott.
According to The Guardian, Everton have not been deterred by Theo Walcott’s wages as they attempt to force through a deal for the Arsenal forward this week.
The Toffees have already added one new signing this month, landing Cenk Tosun from Besiktas to boost Sam Allardyce’s attack – but more signings will be needed after Saturday’s 4-0 thumping at Tottenham Hotspur.
A problem for Everton throughout the campaign has been a sheer lack of pace, and whilst Yannick Bolasie’s return helps matters, it seems that Allardyce is ready to splash the cash on another attacker.
The Guardian report that talks are progressing well with Arsenal over a £20million deal to sign Theo Walcott, and hope to have the deal tied up this week.
It’s even claimed that Everton haven’t been deterred by the £20million fee and Walcott’s £110,000-a-week wages, with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri seemingly ready to fund the move.
Walcott, 28, hasn’t started a single Premier League game this season, and it’s no great surprise that he is planning to move on this month in order to play first-team football elsewhere in a desperate attempt to play at the World Cup.
The former Southampton wonderkid joined Arsenal 12 years ago but has failed to live up to his billing, notching 108 goals in 397 games for the Gunners whilst failing to really prove himself as a quality winger or striker.
Moshiri is seemingly prepared to back a major move for Walcott this month though, handing Allardyce another attacking weapon whilst bringing major pace to the side – something Everton have been crying out for.
