Morrison comments suggest Sheffield Wednesday were chasing a lost cause

Sheffield Wednesday reportedly wanted to sign Sean Morrison from Cardiff City in the summer of 2017.

Cardiff City central defender Sean Morrison has suggested to Wales Online that he was never going to join Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2017.

According to Wales Online, Wednesday made two bids for Morrison in the summer of 2017 – the first one was of £3 million and the second one was worth £5m.

The 27-year-old former Swindon Town and Reading centre-back has suggested that he did not want to join the Owls and wanted to remain at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Morrison told Wales Online: “If someone makes a bid for you, it can throw you off. But it can also show how much your own club want you.

“Me and the gaffer were very open and honest about it from the minute it happened, there was no hiding between agents from either of us.

“I wanted to stay and he wanted me to stay and it was as simple as that. It was just a case of getting the new contract sorted as mine was running down.

“I’m extremely happy at Cardiff City and I’ve made that fully clear. It’s my second home now and I’m very happy the move didn’t happen in the summer.”

Wise decision

Morrison has been one of the best players in the Championship this season and is a key figure in the current Cardiff team.

While the Owls have struggled this campaign and are set to finish outside of the playoffs, the Bluebirds could well clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

The aforementioned comments from Morrison, who has scored four goals in 29 Championship starts for Cardiff so far this season, suggest that Wednesday were always chasing a lose cause.
