Moritz Bauer clinched a move to Stoke City this week.

Moritz Bauer of Stoke City controls the ball during the Friendly match between Stoke City and VfL Bochum on July 18, 2018 in Rheine, Germany.

Celtic moved to secure a surprise deal for Moritz Bauer, following up interest from a year ago.

The transfer caught Celtic fans by surprise, with the club agreeing a loan move for the Austrian defender, BBC Sport report.

Bauer offered a modest assessment of his talent, stating: “I’m maybe not the most talented, but I make it up with hard work.”

For Celtic it is a low risk decision, just like their move in January for Jeremy Toljan. It did not work, so they sent him back.

It is Bauer who is the big winner. He has swapped a poor situation at Stoke for an enviable one at Celtic.

At Stoke, Bauer was out of favour, not in manager Nathan Jones’ plans.

He has not played a single minute this season from five Championship matches, meanwhile his team sit at the bottom of the table with just one point from a possible 15.

There was nothing left for Bauer at Stoke, and now he is at a club with a proven track record of winning trophies.

Bauer may also get the chance to play in the Europa League, and he probably can’t believe his luck the transfer has come off.

It is up to Bauer to make the most of his opportunity, and his Stoke situation means he will want to grasp it.

Celtic have an option to buy, and Bauer has to do enough to make Celtic want to take that up.

Bauer is a winner out of this move, and so are Celtic. Stoke can be pretty glad to have moved him on too, everybody leaves this deal happy right now.
