Barcelona are about to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Ilaix Moriba to RB Leipzig, according to Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the story?

Mundo Deportivo are reporting today (11:50am UK time) that Barcelona are close to selling Moriba to Leipzig.

A transfer is imminent, according to the report in the Spanish news outlet.

Leipzig will pay Barcelona €15 million (£12.86m) plus bonus as transfer fee, and the 18-year-old central midfielder will sign a five-year contract with the German club.

Tottenham are also keen on the teenager, but they have been unable to convince him to move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, according to the report.

Blow for Tottenham Hotspur

If this latest development on Moriba is true, then it is a massive blow to Tottenham and especially to the club’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

We covered a report in AS over the weekend that Paratici had promised the teenager a place in the starting lineup if he joins Spurs.

Mundo Deportivo had earlier reported that Paratici was in Barcelona to personally convince the youngster to pick Spurs over Leipzig.

However, this latest report in Mundo Deportivo suggests that Spurs are now set to miss out on the teenager.

Having said that, we must also bear in mind that anything is possible when the transfer window is open.

Until and unless a player has signed on the dotted line, anything is possible.
