Morgan Fox and Marco Matias were dropped to Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-23s on Friday.

Fox played 90 minutes and Matias eight of last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Derby County.

However, the pair now look unlikely to be involved when Barnsley visit Hillsborough on Saturday, after they each lasted the entirety of Wednesday Under-23s’ 2-2 draw with their Nottingham Forest counterparts on Friday afternoon – in which James Murphy and Connor O’Grady scored the Owls’ goals.

Though Matias was never expected to start against Barnsley regardless, Fox may feel hard done by after putting in a solid performance in difficult circumstances at Derby.

Nevertheless, the former Charlton left-back’s place is likely be taken by one of Adam Reach or Daniel Pudil on Saturday.

Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal will again be without Fernando Forestieri, George Boyd and Jordan Rhodes, while Glenn Loovens, who also featured for the Under-23s, will serve a one-match suspension.

Sam Hutchinson is a doubt, leaving Jacob Butterfield in line to feature against his former employers.
