Alberto Moreno’s disastrous performance for Liverpool came as replacement Ryan Sessegnon starred for Fulham.

Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno produced one of his worst ever performances for the club as they drew 3-3 with Sevilla.

Moreno was already on thin ice as a Liverpool player, and his display in the Champions League game showed he cannot be trusted at the top level.

But as the Spaniard flopped in his homeland, Moreno’s ideal replacement was underlining his potential.

Ryan Sessegnon was linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer [the Evening Standard reported] and last night he produced the best performance of his career.

The teenager scored a hat-trick for Fulham to inspire them to a 5-4 victory at Sheffield United.

It was a sensational display from a player tipped for the very top.

Sessegnon signed a new deal at Fulham in the summer, with the west London side reported to value him at £50 million, the Express reported.

If Liverpool are looking for a replacement for Moreno, which they should be, they should look no further than Sessegnon.

The biggest threat to their chances will be Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mirror reported that Liverpool pulled out of the race for Sessegnon this summer as they expected Spurs to win the race.

Liverpool’s need for a left-back is far greater even if Spurs sell Danny Rose.

Having seen Sessegnon turn down Spurs in the summer, Liverpool must not give up, even if a staggering fee is required to land one of English football’s best young talents.
