Everton fans have slammed Jon Moss’s officiating during Manchester City’s 5-2 win against Southampton on Wednesday night.

The highly-criticised referee made a glaring error at the Etihad and now he’s set to travel to Merseyside to officiate Everton’s clash with Burnley on Saturday.

Understandably, that has worried a number of Everton supporters because they feel his abject decision-making will only continue over the weekend.

Last night, both Moss, and Andrew Madley, who was in charge of VAR, somehow didn’t think Alex McCarthy’s swipe at Phil Foden was worthy of a penalty.

Following a backpass to the Southampton keeper, McCarthy took a heavy touch which was pounced on by Foden, and as he tried to knock the ball past his opponent, the Man City playmaker was wiped out.

But both Moss and VAR deemed that McCarthy got the ball, so no spot-kick was awarded.

And even though Man City racked up yet another win, it left manager Pep Guardiola pretty annoyed, as he described the decision as ‘in-cred-ible’, as he told Sky Sports.

Not only is Jon Moss going to referee Everton’s game on Saturday, but Martin Atkinson is on VAR duty, so it’s a case of will anything go right? Because the Everton supporters aren’t optimistic.
