Speaking on The Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been discussing Granit Xhaka and his early performances this season.
It’s fair to say that Campbell hasn’t always been Xhaka’s biggest fan, repeatedly calling for the midfielder to leave the club, but even he has been impressed by the Swiss midfielder’s showings so far this term.
Indeed, the pundit says that he’s never seen Xhaka play in this way before, stating that he’s more of an attacking threat than he ever has been.
What’s been said?
Campbell actually praised Xhaka.
“At the end of the day, we’ve discussed it, if he’s at the club and he’s wearing the shirt, I have to back him, the fact of the matter is that Xhaka is playing at a level and being involved offensively more than I’ve ever seen him. I’ve never seen him be in the opposition box so much, I’ve never seen him have an assist and score in the same game like he is. It’s an easy one for Mikel Arteta,” Campbell said.
The Zinchenko effect
Granit Xhaka has been the number one beneficiary after Oleksandr Zinchenko’s addition to this Arsenal squad.
Indeed, the Ukrainian joining as a left-back-cum-midfielder has freed Xhaka to play much higher up the pitch and showcase his technical abilities in the final third.
The fact that Xhaka is even impressing Campbell just goes to show how brilliant he has been, and while he’s a polarising player at the best of times, we’re sure that almost every Arsenal fan is happy with him at the moment.
Xhaka is playing the best he’s ever played for Arsenal, and long may it continue.
