Guillem Balague has claimed that former Arsenal boss Unai Emery becoming the next Aston Villa manager is ‘more than a possibility’, as he posted on Twitter.

Things may have gone wrong for Unai Emery during his days at Arsenal, and his only time in the Premier League, but he has picked himself up and done a very good job at Villarreal.

The highlight came when Villarreal beat Manchester United to win the Europa League in 2021, before guiding the La Liga club to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

But with Aston Villa sacking Steven Gerrard last week – which Gary Neville labelled a ‘joke’ – they are looking for a replacement, someone with a bit of pedigree that can take them to Europe.

Emery has that in bucket loads because he has four Europa League trophies to his name, as well as being a runner-up with Arsenal and winning seven trophies in France with PSG.

Nonetheless, Balague shared that Villa want to ‘pay the buy-out clause’ in the 50-year-old’s contract at Villarreal, as he shared on Twitter.

EMERY APPOINTMENT WOULD EXCITE VILLA FANS

Emery is an experienced coach, who has a strong record across Europe, especially in Spain and he is someone that would lift the fans.

Some may point towards his time at Arsenal, but that came soon after the departure of Arsene Wenger, it was never going to be easy.

Plus, when Mikel Arteta took charge, he didn’t exactly work wonders straight away, he went through a lot of struggle, he was backed, especially in the transfer market and now the current Premier League leaders are reaping the rewards for it.

Someone like Emery would be a smart appointment by Villa and one they possibly should have tried to make when they initially sacked Dean Smith.
