Aston Villa fans have praised Idrissa Gueye for his performance during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 win against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
In 2016, both Gueye and Jack Grealish were suffering relegation in Villa colours and heading down to the Championship.
Fast forward to last night and the duo were locking horns with their respective clubs in the biggest club competition in world football.
But it wasn’t the expert ball-carrier who was putting the ball into the back of the net in Paris, it was the expert ball-winner and defensive machine in Gueye that opened the scoring.
After the ball fell to the midfielder in the penalty area, he kept his cool, opened his body up and curled the ball right into the top corner.
Villa fans were impressed with what they saw from their former player because he was one of the best players on the park yesterday.
Man City were the dominant team in attack and will still be wondering how they didn’t score.
But it was the PSG midfield, including Marco Verratti, who was probably the best player on the pitch, that ensured Pep Guardiola’s team didn’t score.
Since those dark and cloudy days in the Midlands, it has been some rise for Gueye, who has deserved every bit of success since then.
