Sheffield United look to have missed out on Thomas’ signing.

Sheffield United looked to be winning the race for Nathan Thomas until Middlesbrough came in for the Hartlepool United winger.
Sky Sports reported the Blades had seen a £300,000 offer accepted by the relegated League Two side – one that Boro, Thomas’ local team, are since said to have matched.
Thomas is not the only fourth tier talent who could do a job for the Blades, however. So should Chris Wilder’s side target Plymouth Argyle’s Graham Carey if the 22-year-old goes elsewhere?
Who is he?
The well-travelled 27-year-old began his career at Celtic and enjoyed a productive loan spell at Huddersfield Town before returning north of the border to play for Ross County and St Mirren. Plymouth took him on two summers ago and have since been rewarded with 27 goals and assists in 100 appearances.

What attributes would he bring to Sheffield United?
Plenty of end product – as evidenced above. In fact, he is on course to end the campaign as the only player in England’s top four divisions to reach 15 goals and 15 assists. Former Plymouth – and Sheffield Wednesday – defender Guy Branston believes Carey is Championship quality in terms of technical ability. However, a lack of mobility perhaps lets down the versatile left footer.
What are the Blades’ chances of getting him?
He’s out of contract, which is half the battle, and convincing him to move to Bramall Lane is unlikely to prove problematic without interest from bigger and better clubs – of which there is little suggestion. It just depends on whether they would want him or not.
