Alasdair Gold says it has become ‘more difficult’ for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham were busy during the 2023 summer transfer window, including a deadline-day capture of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.

There was talk of Conor Gallagher also joining from Chelsea, but as Fabrizio Romano pointed out, no bid was put in for the midfielder.

And now that Gallagher is playing on a regular basis for Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge, he thinks it has become more difficult for the player to join Spurs in January, as he told his own YouTube channel.

Previously, the 23-year-old has been loaned out, including to Crystal Palace, but he stayed at Chelsea last season, only to go through three managers and a bottom-half-table finish.

It could have been easy for the powers that be to sell Gallagher given the interest, but they have kept him on board and they are giving him the chance.

“Gallagher is the more difficult one of the two,” said Gold. “If he now plays regularly for Chelsea, then why are they going to let him go in January?

“Much depends if he is out on the pitch or not.”

Gallagher should stay at Chelsea

If the England international wants to elevate his career to the highest level, then he should stay at Chelsea and fight for his shirt.

He hasn’t shown any signs that he wants to leave, but if the chances are there, then Chelsea and Pochettino also need to be patient with the player.

Thomas Tuchel once dubbed Gallagher as ‘extraordinary’, for a reason. Amongst all these big-money signings, don’t forget about your academy stars because those players are worth as much as the £100 million players.
