Graeme Souness has said on ITV (7:54pm, November 28, 2022) that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has given Uruguay international midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur more confidence to venture out and score.
The Liverpool legend made the comments about Tottenham midfielder Bentancur while watching the 2022 Qatar World Cup match between Portugal and Uruguay on Monday evening.
Portugal won the match 2-0 and qualified for the last-16 stage of the World Cup.
However, it could have been a different result had Bentancur scored in the first half for Uruguay.
The 25-year-old former Juventus star went on a good run and got past Portugal players, but he could not apply the finishing touch.
It was one of the best chances that Uruguay had in the entire match.

And while Souness, who started is career at Tottenham, was critical of Bentancur for not scoring, he pointed out that the midfielder created the chance for himself because he is now getting confidence from his Spurs head coach Conte.
Bentancur scored only two goals in 133 Serie A matches for Juventus, but he has already found the back of the net four times in 31 Premier League games for Tottenham.

Souness said about Bentancur scoring more goals: “That could be Conte the coach, and he is getting more confidence. He wants to score, he feels he can score, and he should have scored a goal tonight.”
