Speaking on the Premier League’s official website, Alan Shearer has named his Team of the Season so far.
English football’s top-flight is set for a month-long break as the Qatar World Cup takes centre stage, and this is as good a time as any to reflect on the season so far.
Understandably, Shearer’s team was dominated largely by two teams – league leaders Arsenal and surprise package Newcastle United.
William Saliba was one Arsenal player who made the cut and Shearer had nothing but good things to say about the Frenchman.

Saliba hailed by Shearer
The pundit spoke highly of the defender.
“My two centre-halves. The first one is Saliba at Arsenal, he has been out on loan and has come back this season. He looks so mature and so experienced. Obviously being out on loan has made him feel more comfortable and confident in what he’s doing. He looks really at home in the Premier League,”
Duck to water
William Saliba has taken to the Premier League in a way we haven’t seen from a young defender before.
The Frenchman has come in and has immediately begun to look like one of the very best defenders in the division.
That’s a hard task for any player coming into a new league, never mind a 21-year-old who had to go out on loan to find first team football over the past two seasons.
Saliba has genuinely transformed this Arsenal team, and he himself has seemingly been transformed by the time he spent out on loan over in France.
He more than deserves his spot in Shearer’s team.
