Gabby Agbonlahor expressed his shock on talkSPORT Drive at hearing about Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta being linked with Barcelona.
In Wednesday’s press conference, as posted by Sky Sports, Arteta claimed that there is ‘always’ going to be speculation with the Barcelona job, as the Arsenal man ruled himself out of the running.
Arsenal are sitting outside of the European places in the Premier League, and have been all season, so it has surprised many that Arteta’s name has cropped up in such a manner.
TalkSport host Adrian Durham couldn’t believe what he was hearing when told about those Arteta rumours surfaced in his presser, as ex-Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor issued his response.
“Nowhere near it,” said Agbonlahor. “Barcelona, they have just brought in Koeman, haven’t they? Strange one, for me.
“He has to win more trophies with Arsenal. At least get them into the top four before he’s even considered.
“But still. No way! No chance, for me – there’s more chance of Steven Gerrard. 100%.”
Arteta has no choice but to focus on matters in North London because fans over there will be vying for his blood if things don’t go well during these coming weeks.
If they get knocked out of the Europa League and their form in the Premier League dips then the reaction from the fans towards Arteta will be pretty interesting.
On many occasions this season, it could have been argued that Arteta’s job was more than at risk, but he survived that storm and is hoping that his team can hit their best form during this crucial period of the campaign.
