Unfortunately for Liverpool, it appears as if Naby Keita is yet again injured.
The Guinea international started Liverpool’s League Cup final victory over Chelsea at Wembley last week.
The 27-year-old, who cost £52 million, managed 80 minutes of the showpiece against Thomas Tuchel’s side.
However, it appears to have come at a cost for the former Red Bull Leipzig midfielder.
Asked by reports via The Mirror whether Keita would be available for the visit of West Ham United today, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that he ‘didn’t know’.
Expanding on Keita, the German boss said via The Echo: “All of a sudden, we played a tough game midweek, all these kind of things, so we still wait a little bit for who is how in which moment. So from eight midfielders – Naby we don’t know – to four midfielders in a week, that can happen easily.”
Is Keita injured?
Well Klopp didnt come right out and say it.
However, the fact that the Liverpool manager doesn’t know if Keita’s going to be available today is a relatively solid indication that at the time of speaking, he was carrying a knock.
Keita’s career at Anfield has been litttered with minor and medium-term injuries which have made it almost impossible for the player to get any momentum.
At this point, he is a player who cannot be relied upon and Klopp definitely needs additional midfielders during the summer transfer window, with Thiago Alcantara also sidelined against the Hammers this evening.
