The transition from academy football to the seniors has seen many youngsters lose their passion for the game over the years. Often they get moved from club to club without having a true place to settle down and develop their game. Reading defender Liam Moore is one player who has clocked up his fair share of miles in his career so far.

In the past six seasons, Moore has played in every division in England. After coming through Leicester’s ranks where he was captain of the youth team, he spent time at Bradford in League Two (2011/12), Brentford in League One (2012/13), and Bristol City in the Championship (2015/16). In between those stops he managed over 40 league appearances at the Foxes, including 11 times in their return to the Premier League in 2014/15.

Approaching his mid 20s, Moore was looking for some more continuity in terms of appearances and in August chose to move to Reading on a permanent deal. Since arriving at the club, Moore has brought a great deal of solidity to the Royals defence whether it be at centre back or right back. They have lost just once in nine league and cup games since Moore made his debut in late August, a 4-1 defeat to Brentford last Tuesday evening at Griffin park.

It has been a season of evolution under new manager Jaap Stam who has brought with him a patient possession game which has caused frustration among the fanbase at times. Despite this, they currently sit in eighth position on 18 points and after the international break they have a favourable run of six league games against sides who all sit in the second half of the table. Sandwiched in between those fixtures is a fourth round EFL Cup meeting with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, a team they have yet to beat in their history.

That clash shapes as a big game for everyone at Reading and given the long and winding journey that Moore has been on to this point of his career, he certainly won’t back down from the challenge.
