Leeds United boss Garry Monk has discussed his relationship with owner Massimo Cellino.

Leeds United manager Garry Monk has told the Sky Sports EFL Weekly podcast that he doesn’t think Massimo Cellino’s appeal against an 18-month ban will affect the club’s January transfer plans.

The Whites are in great form as they prepare to take on Preston North End on Boxing Day, as last weekend’s 1-0 home win over Brentford means it’s now seven wins in the last nine Championship games for Monk’s side.

Leeds head into Christmas sitting in fifth place in the Championship table, and after a strong summer transfer window – which saw Leeds land the likes of Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson and Hadi Sacko – Monk will be looking for more additions.

On the pitch, everything is going well for Leeds, but off the pitch, controversy continues to surround owner Massimo Cellino and his situation at Elland Road.

The Italian – who has been at the club since 2014 – was handed an 18 month suspension by The FA after being found guilty of breaching agent regulations, as reported by The Guardian earlier this month.

Ahead of the game with Preston and the January transfer window, Monk has spoken to Sky Sports’ EFL Weekly podcast about his plans for January, and Cellino’s ban.

Monk suggested that he doesn’t think Cellino’s ban and subsequent appeal will have too much of an effect on Leeds’ January transfer business, claiming it will be business as usual for the club.

Monk added that he and Cellino agree on what Leeds need to bring in during the transfer window, and hopes that they can recruit the right players again, having thrived in the summer transfer market.

“I shouldn’t think it would affect anything,” said Monk. “With the owner, like in the summer, we work very closely to make sure that we get the right players into the club. Of course, I’m sure it will be the same in January. I’ve made it aware what I feel the squad needs, the owner knows that, he thinks along the same lines as me, as we did in the summer, and hopefully we can recruit the right players,” he added.
