Leeds United look like strengthening their back line this summer.
According to a recent report from the Yorkshire Evening Post new Leeds United manager Garry Monk wants to sign a new centre-back this summer.
The report suggests that two new strikers could arrive in the form of Marcus Antonsson and Ashley Fletcher, with a new goalkeeper also on the agenda as a replacement for current first-choice Marco Silvestri.
But here we take a look at some potential defensive targets that could be realistic options for Leeds following Monk’s arrival:
Kyle Bartley
Monk knows Swansea’s current squad very well and he may well return to the Liberty Stadium to do some business for one or two of their fringe players.
Bartley has fallen down the pecking order under new Swans boss Francesco Guidolin and with a contract that expires in the summer of 2017 he could be available for a cut-price fee.
David Wheater
Once hailed as a future star, David Wheater is leaving Bolton Wanderers this summer as a free agent, and considering he is still only 29 he could prove to be a very canny addition to Leeds’ squad if they make a move.
Things did not go well at Bolton but he remains a talent and for the money involved it could be something of a no-brainer.
Alfie Mawson
A considerably younger option would be Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson, who the Sun claim is a target for Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.
The 22-year-old played an impressive 58 times for the Tykes last season; however with a contract until the summer of 2018 he will not come cheap, if at all.
Rui Correia
The 25-year-old currently plays for Nacional in Portugal and according to Record Leeds are keeping a close eye on his progress.
Not only adept at keeping the ball out at one end, the 25-year-old is also a threat at set-pieces, scoring five goals from defence last season.
