Former Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has revealed to The Daily Mail that he spoke to Kyle Bartley and Luke Ayling following his departure from Leeds United.

Monk was in charge of Leeds for the 2016-17 season and guided the West Yorkshire outfit to a seventh-place finish in the Championship.

The Whites were in the running for the playoffs until the final weeks of the season when they struggled to get points on the board.

Monk parted company with Leeds at the end of the 2016-17 season and was subsequently handed the managerial job at Middlesbrough.

The former Swansea City boss, though, parted company with Boro just before Christmas.

The 38-year-old former central defender has revealed that he spoke to 26-year-old defender Bartley and Ayling following his departure from Leeds to get feedback on the job he had done at Elland Road.

Bartley spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Leeds from Swansea, while 26-year-old Ayling, who can operate as a defender or as a defensive midfielder, signed for the Whites from Bristol City in the summer of 2016.

Monk told The Daily Mail: “I spoke to Ashley Williams and Leon Britton when I left Swansea. I spoke to Kyle Bartley and Luke Ayling when I left Leeds and will do the same at Boro. I wanted to know what worked well, what could be better.”
