Leeds United have a fine goal-scorer in their ranks; they just need to use him.

Of all Leeds United’s summer transfers, the addition of Kemar Roofe was among the most exciting, with the 23-year-old possessing the ability to follow in the footsteps of Jermain Beckford in time.

So far, the former Oxford United attacker has had to make do with just two league starts and four substitute appearances, but as Leeds manager Garry Monk looks to turn things around at Elland Road it is time Roofe played consistently.

The simple fact is Chris Wood is not currently performing anywhere near his best, and with Leeds in dire need of a good run of form to pull them out of the Championship’s bottom three Monk has to make changes.

Roofe has played all his Leeds matches to date on the wing, but as he proved at Oxford he is a superb option up front and Leeds would benefit from a change in thinking and personnel.

Last season Roofe played 17 matches out wide, scoring eight goals in the process, while playing either as a centre forward or a secondary striker he racked up 15 goals in 22 games.

In short, he deserves a place up front for Leeds as Monk not only looks to get more points on the board but also potentially fights for his job even at this early stage of the campaign.

Roofe should have started against Huddersfield; instead he watched from the bench until just 14 minutes remained on the clock.

That is too little too late and against Blackburn Rovers Monk must be smart and put his faith in the summer addition.
