Glasgow Rangers pulled off a brilliant piece of business by bringing Jamie Murphy to Ibrox during the January transfer window.
Based on the start that he has made to his Ibrox career, few would argue that Rangers’ deal to sign Jamie Murphy on loan during the January transfer window was anything but a masterstroke.
Murphy has been exceptional since arriving, and the Gers fans will be feeling extremely pleased that the club agreed a permanent deal for the end of the campaign – as reported by the club’s official website when the loan move was confirmed.
The 28-year-old’s arrival may be a major positive for the Scottish Premiership side, but, perhaps based on recent reports, it may have actually had a negative impact on their hopes of signing another of their targets, Jordan Jones.
Not only has Rangers’ inability to sign the 23-year-old during the most recent window left the door open for a Premier League side and a team fighting to get back in the top flight to plot moves – both of whom could presumably offer a lot more than what Rangers may be able to put on the table – but the void that Chris Hughton is hoping to fill by signing Jones appears to have come about by letting Murphy go to Ibrox.
Murphy may not have been a first choice for the Seagulls by any means, but he does boast a handful of appearances in the top flight this term, and Hughton may now feel that letting him go has meant that he will need replacing.
Few Rangers fans could suggest that signing Murphy has not been an overwhelming success, but perhaps it would actually be fair to suggest that his expected permanent move to Ibrox is now going to leave Brighton more determined to land the player that the Gers failed to sign in January.
