Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Conor Hourihane from Barnsley in the January transfer window.
Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom has suggested to The Yorkshire Post that the club could sell Conor Hourihane in the January transfer window.
According to The Yorkshire Post, Aston Villa are interested in signing midfielder Hourihane from Championship rivals Barnsley this month.
Heckingbottom has stated that he wants the 25-year-old to remain at Oakwell, but he has admitted that the midfielder could be sold if a big offer comes in.
“Until a bid has been accepted, he is a Barnsley player,” Heckingbottom told The Yorkshire Post about Hourihane. “That is what they (players) get paid to do and that is his job.
“I hope he remains a Barnsley player. I have had plenty of discussions with Conor. He’s come a long, long way while he has been here and hopefully he continues that.
“But money talks at the end of the day and football is a business. If a fee came in what the club wanted to accept, then there is nothing I can do about it.”
Hourihane has been on the books of Barnsley since the summer of 2014 and has a contract with the Tykes until June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is a good midfielder and has been playing well this season.
The former Plymouth Argyle man has scored six goals and created 46 chances in 21 Championship appearances for Barnsley so far this season.
Villa are 13th in the Championship table at the moment with 36 points from 27 matches, nine points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
Meanwhile, Barnsley find themselves eighth in the table with 41 points from 27 games.
