Sevilla sporting director Monchi has developed a reputation for being one of the top men in his role working anywhere in football.

His nous in the market has helped Sevilla win the Europa League four times in the last seven seasons, including in July.

That earned them qualification for the Champions League and as Sevilla gear up for that, Monchi has given an interview to the Telegraph.

He has offered his view on the transfer operations at Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Leeds United.

“There are clubs like Leeds, Liverpool and [Manchester] City, amongst others, that are working with quite a well-developed sporting management structure,” said Monchi.

“It is difficult for us to compete with English football, but we do so by making our brand name known, which is undoubtedly associated with success.

“Maybe we can’t pay that much, but we can offer a very exclusive sporting challenge, I would say almost unique. 20 finals in this century, ten titles, kings of the Europa League, we are specialists in doing more with less.”

Liverpool and Leeds are among the clubs who have done the most impressive business this summer.

There won’t be a better player who comes to the Premier League this summer than Thiago.

And Diogo Jota has got off to a flying start as well as seeming to fit the bill perfectly for what Jurgen Klopp wants; young, experienced, versatile, able to press the ball and capable of further improvement.

Leeds have also backed Marcelo Bielsa in the transfer market, with Diego Llorente, Robin Koch and record signing Rodrigo coming through the door.

Those signings represent a substantial investment – and a potential risk – but Monchi is clearly impressed with how Leeds do things, namechecking them alongside the two best sides in the country.
