Reported Arsenal target Raheem Sterling helped England into the semi-final of Euro 2020 on Saturday night.
The Three Lions smashed Ukraine 4-0 in Italy to advance into the last four, setting up a tie with Denmark in the proces.
Sterling – who according to Eurosport, is very much on Arsenal’s radar – wasn’t among the goals on this occasion, but he did set up Harry Kane inside 10 minutes for the opener.
It was a brilliant performance from the Manchester City attacker – who has three goals himself in the tournament – and here’s what former Gunners defender Matthew Upson said about him to BBC Sport.
He said: “It’s been a moment of class from Raheem Sterling. That’s the difference. But Ukraine have come back, they look capable of scoring.”
Can Arsenal get him?
If Pep Guardiola decides that he wants to sell the man who City spent £49 million on six years ago, then yes a stint with Mikel Arteta – who Sterling worked with at Eastlands – may make sense.
Thing is, why would the Citizens want to cash in?
As he’s proven in this tournament, Sterling remains absolutely lethal and although he fell out of favour under Guardiola toward the end of last season, that doesn’t mean the Spaniard wants him gone.
Sterling still has so much offer and at 26, isn’t even in the prime of his career yet.
Arsenal could get him if City decide they don’t want him, but that seems an unlikely conclusion to be reached.
