Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby believes the Reds caught other clubs napping when they appointed Jurgen Klopp as their manager a year ago, he wrote in the Liverpool Echo.
Molby said he was surprised at the time that Liverpool managed to land the former Borussia Dortmund boss after sacking Brendan Rodgers.
Nevertheless, his delight the Reds managed to land the German is evident, as he told the Liverpool Echo: “Don’t get me wrong, I was delighted as well. But my surprise was that Liverpool had managed to get a manager of such calibre at that time.

“I can’t help feeling that the Reds nipped in while some of Europe’s other top clubs were napping. They missed a trick, and Liverpool benefited.
“How much would Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich love to have a manager like Klopp at their club?”
If that is the case then Liverpool timed their move for Klopp very well, and will hope that the move pays off in the years to come. They almost had near instant success last season but lost out in two cup finals. Their start to the season this term suggests they could have a strong campaign.

They currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League, two points behind Manchester City at the top and are in the fourth round of the EFL Cup after overcoming Championship opposition in both of the earlier rounds. They will face Tottenham for a place in the quarter-finals later this month.
After several years when the club has fallen below the standards that many set for them, the side needs to re-establish itself at the very least as a Champions League club again for the years ahead, along with winning silverware.
