Liverpool have made the trip to Italy ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan.

Arne Slot’s side are coming off a heavy 4-1 defeat to PSV in their last European fixture and will be looking for a response.

It’s not just in Europe where they’re struggling. Liverpool have managed just two wins in their last ten Premier League matches, and their position in the table is starting to reflect it.

Slot has been forced into some tough decisions recently, including dropping Mohamed Salah – a move that hasn’t gone down well with the player. Ahead of the match, the manager addressed that situation directly.

Mohamed Salah posts solo gym session after Inter Milan snub

Salah’s criticism came after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United, in which he openly spoke out against Slot and the club.

His frustration has since been met with another setback, as he was left out of the squad that travelled to Italy for Tuesday’s Champions League fixture against Inter Milan.

Salah later posted a photo on Instagram showing himself sitting alone in the AXA Training Centre gym. While there was no caption or comment attached, the post still drew plenty of attention, quickly racking up more than 198,000 likes.

Will Mohamed Salah play against Brighton?

Salah’s absence wasn’t just a one-off. Slot kept him out of the Inter match as well, making it two in a row for the Egyptian.

Next up for Liverpool is a Premier League fixture against Brighton this Saturday. Slot addressed the situation on Monday, hinting that there might still be a path forward.

He said: “It is not the way I feel [that the relationship is broken], but he has the right to feel how he feels things. I have not felt that at all until Saturday evening.

“When I don’t play him anymore, usually players don’t like the manager then that much but he was very respectful to my staff members and his teammates. He trained really hard. To an extent, it was a surprise to me when I heard that he gave the comments he gave.

“It is not the first and not the last time when a player doesn’t play that he says something similar to what he did. My reaction to that is clear, that is that he is not here.”
