Mohamed Salah has been arguably the best player in the world since the start of the season, but could he be about to get even better?
Salah has just tasted the ultimate disappointment. He’s just lost in the African Cup of Nations final with Egypt, and we can’t even begin to imagine how painful that defeat will be for Salah.
However, as with any elite sportsman, Salah has proven that he has that bouncebackability, and if he rebounds from this disappointment, he could become even better.
Salah has a score to settle. He’s in the form of his life and he’s been robbed of his first major international honour, so how can he make up for that? By leading Liverpool to some silverware this term.
Throughout history, there are stories of elite sportsmen hitting new heights after suffering major setbacks. Muhammad Ali only cemented himself as the Greatest of All Time after losing to Joe Frazier, Michael Jordan went through a physical transformation and become basketball’s GOAT after receiving a pummelling from the Detroit Pistons, and Salah could find another gear after this setback.
Salah has once again had a taste of what it feels like to come so close yet so far away from a major honour, and trust us, he won’t want this feeling again anytime soon.

It’s a mentality that runs through the entire Liverpool squad as well. They lost the 2018 Champions League final to Real Madrid before triumphing 12 months later, while they finished second in the Premier League in 2019 despite only losing one game, before steamrolling the entire division one year on.
Salah, like any sportsperson, will absolutely hate the feeling of losing, so don’t be surprised if he finds another gear in order to make sure he won’t have to feel this emotion with Liverpool in the coming months.
