Liverpool’s summer spending ended with a huge deal for Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, capping off a transfer window that was so close to being perfect for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp has guided Liverpool back into the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League last season, and he set out plans for major additions over the summer.
However, Liverpool couldn’t strike a deal for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk having been reported for making an illegal approach to the Dutch international, and whilst the Reds did finally strike a deal for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, he will only join next summer rather than being available right now.

Liverpool’s top two targets won’t be in the squad this season, but the Reds have clearly made one important addition with the signing of Mohamed Salah, who has been the club’s signing of the summer ahead of the likes of Andrew Robertson and Dominic Solanke.
Salah, 24, arrived with a strong reputation having hit 15 goals and 11 assists for Roma last season, and he has so far answered questions about his suitability for the Premier League, having previously struggled to make an impact with Chelsea.
The Egyptian international has opened his campaign with two goals in three games for Liverpool, bagging a goal in the 3-3 draw at Watford before scoring the third goal in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Arsenal prior to the international break.
With Philippe Coutinho missing the first month of the season, Salah has stepped up for Liverpool, bringing pace and skill out wide whilst also adjusting quickly to Klopp’s high-pressing style, and his arrival means that defences must now cope with the blistering pace of both Salah and Sadio Mane.
Salah’s start to life at Anfield hasn’t been totally perfect; his display in the away leg against Hoffenheim in the Champions League left something to be desired, though he is of course still bedding in to this Liverpool side, with three goals in five competitive games a fantastic start.
It’s a case of so far, so good for Salah, and after a summer of exorbitant transfer fees, Liverpool boss Klopp may well feel that he is getting good value for money out of £37million addition Salah, who looks primed for a productive season if his early performance are anything to go by.
