Both Mohamed Elyounoussi and Fraser Forster joined Neil Lennon’s Celtic on loan from Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Elyounoussi, who can also operate as a forward, moved to Celtic on loan from Premier League club Southampton in the summer.
Forster also returned to the Hoops in the summer transfer window, with the 31-year-old goalkeeper having joined Neil Lennon’s side on loan from the Saints as well.
Norway international winger Elyounoussi – who joined Southampton from Basel in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £16 million – believes that Forster was the best goalkeeper at Southampton.
The 31-year-old moved to Southampton from Celtic in 2014, and he has suggested that he did not have the same pressure at St. Mary’s Stadium as he had at Celtic Park.
Elyounoussi told The Scottish Sun: “Fraser is a quality keeper. I think he was the best goalkeeper down at Southampton. He’s amazing when he’s at his best.”
Forster told The Herald: “One of the biggest things I missed when I left here was that ‘we’ve got to win every week’ mentality, when you’re expected to take three points every single week and even a draw was a bad result. That pressure we have here was something I definitely felt nostalgic for.”
Permanent Celtic move?
Forster is a very good goalkeeper, and although Southampton are a big and established club in the Premier League, perhaps the 31-year-old would want to stay at Celtic beyond his loan spell.
The Englishman knows Celtic inside out, and if his performances are good this season, then he could well be offered the chance by the Hoops to make his loan deal permanent.
