Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi has told the Daily Record that he is convinced Albian Ajeti will prove to be a star at Parkhead.

The Bhoys brought Elyounoussi back for another season on loan with the Bhoys having returned to Southampton at the end of the last campaign.

Elyounoussi was joined by a familiar face, as Celtic swooped to snap up striker Ajeti from West Ham United, bolstering Neil Lennon’s striking options.

Elyounoussi and Ajeti know each other well from their time playing together at Basel, where they were both simply outstanding.

The pair combined in the Basel attack to rack up 30 goals and 22 assists in the 2017-18 season, so Celtic fans will have been excited to see them reunite.

However, Ajeti has managed just five goals in 23 games for Celtic, with sporadic substitute appearances hardly conducive to him starring in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old hasn’t lived up to his billing at Celtic, but Elyounoussi has now moved to predict that there is ‘definitely’ more to come from the Swiss striker.

Elyounoussi has flagged up Ajeti’s injury problems as a reason for his lack of impact, and praised him as being a great person to have in the dressing room, and will show his quality eventually.

“There’s definitely more to come from Albian. I played with him and know what he is capable of,” said Elyounoussi. “He made a big move from Basel to West Ham, so he is a quality player. He had a really good start here at Celtic. He wasn’t really fit when he came so that took a bit of time. But he scored a lot of goals and then he got injured. He’s been in and out with injury problems, so it’s been a little bit difficult for him. But I’m really sure that he’s going to show what he’s capable of when he’s needed.”

“He’s a hard-working guy and I’m sure he’s going to come back stronger. When you know someone coming in from before, you try to help them settle in. But Albian’s the type of guy that gets along with everyone. He was good with everyone from day one here at Celtic. He’s a good guy, a funny guy – and a good player to have in the dressing room,” he added.
