Egyptian midfielder’s Arsenal move is done.
Incoming Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has sent a message on social media confirming his transfer to Arsenal.
The Egyptian has become the club’s first signing of the January transfer window.
The BBC reported last night that Arsene Wenger hoped to have him available for this Sunday’s fixture against Stoke City, with the transfer fee said to be £5 million.
The Gunners shortly afterwards confirmed the deal via their official website.
Elneny is a defensive midfielder who will give the club extra options with Francis Coquelin out injured until late February.
He joins from Basel and has experience playing in both the Champions League and Europa League.
It is unclear if the Gunners will look to strengthen further in the transfer window, with the club hoping to welcome back several key players from injury over the coming weeks, including Alexis Sanchez potentially his weekend. Arsenal are currently joint top of the Premier League with Leicester City.
