Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has told Football.London that he thinks Alexandre Lacazette is ‘amazing’, sharing his dedication in training.

Lacazette was a surprise starter against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with many expecting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to lead the line.

Yet with Aubameyang arriving late for pre-match preparations, Mikel Arteta chose to leave him on the bench and start Lacazette instead.

The Frenchman wasn’t particularly having his best game, but ended up scoring the winner as he was brought down by Davinson Sanchez before scoring from the resulting penalty.

Elneny has now been asked whether Lacazette receives too much criticism from fans, and he suggested that the striker is ‘an amazing player’.

Elneny added that he always sees Lacazette staying back for extra training on his finishing, showing the dedication that Arsenal fans should love.

“He’s an amazing player for us,” said Elneny. “He’s scored so many goals for the team. He’s an amazing player and loves to score. He always trains after training for finishing,” he added.

Arsenal will soon have a decision to make on Lacazette, as he has just over a year left on his Gunners contract and could be sold this summer before he walks away for nothing.

It’s clear that Lacazette is a popular player in the squad, but whether he is worth another contract remains to be seen, especially as he nears 30.
