Mohamed Diame is out of contract at Newcastle United at the end of the season.
Diame is out of contract at Premier League club Newcastle at the end of the season, according to The Shields Gazette.
According to The Chronicle, if the 31-year-old midfielder starts three more matches for the Magpies this season, then he will earn a one-year contract extension.
The Senegalese international has suggested that he wants to stay at Newcastle, but he has also said that he is open to leaving the Premier League club.
Diame told The Chronicle regarding his future: “As I have said before it will not be a problem because the club know my position. I am focused on what this club needs to stay up, as that is the most important thing.
“I have been playing a lot this season so it will not be a problem to find another team. They (Newcastle) know I want to stay.”
The midfielder added: “I am happy here that’s what I can say. I am happy at Newcastle.
“It was tough at the beginning but I settled down. If I can stay I will stay, but if I have to go, I will go. It won’t be a problem.”

Diame has been on the books of Newcastle since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Hull City for a transfer fee reported by The Shields Gazette to be worth £4.5 million.
The 31-year-old played an important role in the Magpies winning promotion from the Championship, and the midfielder remains a key figure in Rafael Benitez’s side, as they attempt to escape the dreaded drop from the Premier League.
The former West Ham United and Hull City midfielder has made 21 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle so far this season, according to WhoScored.
