The Championship side have been incredibly busy during the window.

Mohamed Diame has admitted to the Shields Gazette that life at Newcastle United will be slightly easier when the transfer window closes.

The 29-year-old is one of a number of signings that Rafael Benitez has made during this window. And while several members of the squad have been moved on in some capacity, there are still some fringe players at St James’ Park whose futures appear to be somewhat in limbo.

And Diame has conceded that once the deadline comes and goes, it will be better for the team as they can all switch their attention to the Magpies’ promotion push.

“It’s not always easy when you’ve got some players wanting to leave and others wanting to stay. Once the month is finished we can focus on the same thing,” he told the Shields Gazette.

Once the dust settles following the window’s closure, those members of the squad who end up sticking around having previously been anticipating a departure will know that without a loan window, their only opportunity to gain first-team football is to prove themselves to Benitez and his staff.

And that may subsequently strengthen their promotion bid as those players previously on the fringes of the squad may look to impress, which will, in turn, push those currently in the manager’s first-team plans to maintain their standards as there is someone hoping to take their place.
