Luka Modric has sent a touching six-word message to Celtic fans on Twitter after the Real Madrid midfielder produced a midfield masterclass that proved crucial in his side running out 3-0 winners at Parkhead on Tuesday night.

Modric, 35, has entered his 11th season with Real Madrid, after agreeing a new deal until the end of the season. The 152-time Croatia star continues to prove incredibly important for Madrid, starting five of side’s six games this season.

At Parkhead, he formed part of a midfield alongside Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni. Celtic pushed Madrid and had a couple of chances – Callum McGregor hitting the post. But it was Modric and Madrid that ran out 3-0 winners.

Vinicius Jr. broke the deadlock on 55 minutes after wonderful play from Fede Valverde. Modric then made it 2-0 himself, his second of the season, but only his 33rd goal in 442 games for Madrid. A lovely finish, outside of the foot.

Eden Hazard netted only his seventh goal in a troubled spell at Madrid – in which Modric was involved in. A display that saw the entirety of Celtic Park applaud him off the field on 80 minutes. He sent a six-word message to Celtic fans.

What a performance. What a player. A legend of the modern game. Modric is getting better and better, as he gets older. Many have described the Madrid superstar as, like a fine wine, and he proved as much at Celtic Park last night.

A sensational example of work rate, positioning, passing, vision, timing and end product. A player that so many can learn from. If he continues his wonderful form until the end of the year, another Ballon d’Or could be in the offing.
