Tottenham currently sit fifth in the Premier League table.
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric has told football magazine FourFourTwo that his old side can win the Premier League title “in the near future”.
Spurs are yet to win a trophy under manager Mauricio Pochettino and are struggling in their attempts to remain in the top four of the Premier League, with Manchester City running away with the title.
Modric, 32, also failed to win a trophy with the north Londoners despite achieving a place in the quarter finals of the Champions League and going as far as a League Cup final in 2009 – only to lose on penalties to Manchester United.
The former Spurs midfielder is adamant, though, that despite Spurs struggles to lift a trophy in recent years, that they will achieve domestic glory sooner rather than later.
“Do I still follow their results? Yes, when I have time,” Modric said. “I always enjoy watching Tottenham’s games and I really like what the club has become over the last few seasons.
“They play the kind of enjoyable and attacking football that I like to see, and I definitely think Spurs could win the Premier League title in the near future – they’ve got excellent players.”
The midfielder has since moved to Real Madrid, where he has finally got his hands on a number of trophies including the 2016-17 La Liga title, the 2013-14 Copa Del Rey trophy and three Champions League winners medals.
However, this season, the Croatia captain has seen the Real Madrid side struggle under Zinedine Zidane, sitting fourth in La Liga – 19 points behind El Clasico rivals Barcelona.
