Luka Modric has claimed that rumoured Liverpool target, Kylian Mbappe, is ‘amongst the best in the world’, as he told Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old helped PSG progress through to the semi-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night, as Liverpool or Real Madrid will be hoping to join the French champions in the last four tonight.
If either Liverpool or Madrid progress, they will be glad that they don’t have to deal with Mbappe’s talents until the final – that’s if they all make it that far.
It’s understandable why there is such a fuss about the World Cup-winning Frenchman, whose brace in Bavaria last week ensured it was enough for his team to see off Bayern Munich on away goals yesterday.
And Modric, who was left heartbroken by Mbappe’s France side in the 2018 World Cup final, knows exactly how good the light-footed speedster is.
“Mbappe is a great player and he’s proved that with his national team and PSG,” said Modric.
“Great players are always welcome at Real Madrid, but it wouldn’t be right of me to speak about players at other clubs, particularly at this stage of the season.
“We’ll have to see what happens next season, but he’s a top player and is amongst the best in the world.”
Alongside Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, many feel Mbappe will be the talk of the summer transfer window and whether a club in Europe, during this COVID-hit year, will put serious money on the table to lure him away from the bright lights of Paris.
English journalist Duncan Castles claimed in March that the PSG man wants to move to Liverpool, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United also lurking in the corner for his talents.
If Liverpool can add number seven to their cabinet this season then, not only does it guarantee them Champions League football for next season, but it increases their chances to sign some of the most sought-after talents in Europe.
