Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has told Sky Sports that he wanted to move to Anfield from the time when he was at Chelsea.

What’s the story?

Salah moved to Chelsea in 2014, but he could make only a handful of appearances in the Premier League for the Blues.

The attacker struggled under then Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The Egyptian had loan spells at Fiorentina and AS Roma before making a permanent move to the latter in 2016.

Liverpool signed the forward from Roma in 2017.

Since then, the 29-year-old has scored over 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool, won the league and the Champions League with the Reds, and has become one of the best players in the world.

What Mo Salah has said

Salah told Sky Sports in an extensive interview: “I think when I was at Chelsea I came here and Liverpool were fighting for the title, and the atmosphere was unbelievable. And I said, ‘Wow, I want to play here one day.’

“That’s why when I was in Rome and there was talk between the clubs, I said I would love to play there, the atmosphere is unbelievable and I wanted to come back to England to prove people wrong, I didn’t have my chance there with Chelsea, and I wanted to come back.

“Also when I was young, I was playing with Liverpool on the PlayStation! So there was emotion between me and the club.”

Interesting comments

Salah was clearly impressed by the atmosphere at Anfield when he first played there with Chelsea.

To be fair to the Egyptian, all players are.

Anfield is one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, and the atmosphere is electric.

It is quite interesting that Salah wanted to join Liverpool even when he was at Chelsea.

We know that the 29-year-old could not get chances at Chelsea, but what if he was a success at Stamford Bridge?

What if Salah had won Premier League and Champions League titles and the Golden Boot at Chelsea?

What if the forward had established himself as a key figure at Chelsea?

Would Salah still have wanted to move to Liverpool?
