He has found the back of the net on two occasions during that time, scoring one of Newcastle’s three against West Ham and losing his marker at Selhurst Park to tap in at the back post on Sunday afternoon.
The Senegal international’s increased confidence is showing in his performances on the pitch but with just 18 months remaining on his current St. James’ Park contract, surely it is time for a new deal?
The Daily Star claim Diame is earning £45,000 a week at St. James’ Park but will be in the final year of the three-year contract that he signed in the summer of 2016, when moving north from Hull City.
Diame is expected to start on Sunday afternoon as the Toon face Manchester United at home, and if the former Hull City midfielder can shine against Jose Mourinho’s side then surely he warrants a new deal.
