Celtic star Kieran Tierney is being touted elsewhere – by a former Bhoys ace.
Former Celtic defender Mo Camara has told The Scottish Sun that he has scouted Bhoys defender Kieran Tierney for Manchester United and Sunderland.
Tierney, 21, has starred for Celtic since breaking into their first team in 2015, beating out Emilio Izaguirre to become first-choice left back under Ronny Deila.
Three years on, Tierney has racked up nearly 150 appearances for Celtic as well as 11 caps for Scotland having emerged as one of the world’s top young left backs.
Celtic again managed to keep Tierney at Parkhead this summer, and the boyhood Celtic fan may not have designs on leaving for the Premier League just yet, despite major interest in his signature.
Now, former Celtic defender Mo Camara has spoken to The Scottish Sun about Tierney, revealing that he has scouted the Bhoys talent for English duo Manchester United and Sunderland.
Camara spent just one season with Celtic following a 2005 move from Burnley, but turned his hand to scouting after his playing career ended in 2010, and suggested that Tierney would definitely be good enough for a top six Premier League team – but whilst a move may be inevitable one day, nobody will want him to leave Celtic.
“I do some scouting for Manchester United and scouted for Sunderland and we followed Kieran Tierney loads,” said Camara. “He’s a very good left-back – he will go for big money if and when Celtic decide to sell. It’s one of those where the fans, manager and the chairman — none of them will want Tierney sold.”
“But in Scotland, the English Premier League’s next door and everyone wants to be there. At some point the player and club will have to see a move as a possibility for him. He’ll want to test himself at a high level. He’d definitely be playing for a top five or six team in the Premier League,” he added.
Manchester United may well be in the market for a left back depending on Luke Shaw’s fitness and contract situation, with Tierney certainly fitting the ball if they do head into the market for another option in 2019.
With Sunderland though, a move is pretty much impossible. Camara may have followed Tierney for the Black Cats in their Premier League days, but now they’re in League One, they have exactly zero chance of signing him, potentially leaving United as the leading English side in the race.
