The crocked duo could be back in action for Everton sooner rather than later.
Everton duo Mo Besic and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are set to step up their recoveries in Everton’s warm weather training camp in Dubai, the Liverpool Echo reports, in a major boost for Ronald Koeman.
The Toffees boss invested intelligently in his squad during the January transfer window, adding Morgan Schneiderlin and Ademola Lookman to the ranks while the rapid rise of Tom Davies has offered more strength in depth.
Consequently, Everton have enjoyed their most consistent run of form under the Dutchman and the impending return of Besic and Calvert-Lewin are set to provide further cover in key positions ahead of a testing final three months of the campaign.
Terrier-like Bosnian midfielder Besic has been restricted to just 35 Premier League appearances in his first two seasons in English football, but his firebrand tenacity and lung-busting work rate is likely to pique Koeman’s interest.
The Dutchman’s desire for a high-tempo, hard-pressing approach is well documented and, if the 24-year-old can finally put his fitness issues behind him, he could play a major role in Koeman’s Everton set-up going forward.
Calvert-Lewin, meanwhile, is expected to return from an ankle injury that curtailed his progress last month. The youngster had finally forced his way into the first-team plans before suffering the set-back, his hold-up play and work off the ball giving Koeman the confidence to bring him on late in games.
Top scorer Romelu Lukaku is the only other out-and-out striker at Everton’s disposal so the 19-year-old could also earn plenty of game time before the season is out.
