Nicklas Bendtner could be on his way back to Arsenal in January after a disappointing start to life in Serie A. Juventus would not be to upset to see the back of him, so where next for the divisive Dane?
Picture this if you will. You fancy going out for dinner, alone, with your girlfriend, boyfriend whatever it is the 21st century after all. You want to go somewhere fancy so you ring around looking for a swanky place to sit and eat but the first few places you get in touch with are swanky for a reason. The price!
So you can’t afford your first choice that’s fine so you bring down the price range slightly and figure you can just go out and find somewhere to sit and eat for a good price and it won’t be too bad for what you need. But everywhere you try is a mess, no room, nothing you fancy, fully booked and time is pushing on and you are getting increasingly frustrated and hungry.
In the end before it all gets too late, unable to wait any longer, and starving you decide to go for some fast-food. You are in and out of McDonalds faster than a particle around the Large Hadron Collider you wolf down your food to quench your stomachs discomfort and then you are left wondering what could have been.
That feeling is probably how Juventus felt when they hurriedly brought in Nicklas Bendtner on loan at the end of the transfer window and since then it has been a predictable disaster for the Danish striker.
Firstly there was the open admittance that he was far from the Turin clubs first choice but their failure in the pursuit of Fernando Llorente, Edison Cavani and Stevan Jovetic left them in a hurry to fill the void and Bendtner was sufficient at the time.
Then they branded him too fat to play and put him on a special dietary and exercise plan before he could feature in the team and even now he has barely featured since his arrival for the Bianconeri.
Now it seems he could come back to Arsenal in January as his agent believes he is too good to remain on the bench at The Old Lady.
However after criticising Arsenal’s training regime while in Italy and being quite clearly far, far, far from the first-team picture in Arsene Wenger’s eyes he will surely be moved on quite swiftly once again.
Arsenal were defeated by Schalke on Wednesday night with Klaas Jan-Huntelaar one of the names on the score sheet. Could they use Bendtner, who has previously been linked with the Gelsenkirchen club, as a makeweight in any deal to bring in the Dutch international whose contract is dwindling toward expiry?
