Leeds United’s fine form this season in the Championship has largely been spearheaded by striker Chris Wood.

The Kiwi striker has been brilliant and is currently the top scorer in the League. He has netted 25 goals in 38 appearances this season, and Leeds fans have been finally won around by the 25-year-old goal-getter.

It’s form that has been noticed by his international boss. New Zealand head coach Anthony Hudson has been singing the praises of the Leeds star this week, after calling him up for World Cup qualifiers against Fiji later this month.

Speaking to the Otago Daily Times, Hudson hopes that Wood can continue his fine form with Leeds on the international stage:

“I am so pleased for Woodsy. It’s not by chance, it comes down to his mentality and how hard he works. He is such an asset to the national team.

“I think Woodsy, among a few others in this squad, can be superstars on the international stage this year because they now have earned the platform to do that.”

Wood already has three goals in four games in the qualification rounds so far and will be hoping to add to that tally, and his 19 goals for his country so far.

Leeds United fans will no doubt want him to carry on his scoring form with his country. However, the main hope will be he returns from international duty injury-free.

If not already a superstar to Leeds United fans, he surely will be if his goal exploits fire the club back to the Premier League come the end of the season.
