Southampton, Manchester City, Manchester United, Wigan Athletic, Cardiff City, Liverpool, Anzhi and Hull City all feature.
Who has had a good week and who has had one to forget?
Good week
Wigan Athletic
If looking forward to the Community Shield on Sunday wasn’t enough to be excited about the club also won their opening game of the season 4-0, signed James McClean from Sunderland and confirmed they received no bids for their star players.
Happy days.
Rickie Lambert
I doubt that the Southampton striker has had a better week in his life than this one. In fact all his good news came on one day.
It was Thursday this week that Lambert received the phone-call many had been calling for all of last season – he was in the England squad for next week’s friendly against Scotland.
But to make matters even better his wife was giving birth that morning – to a baby girl named Bella.
Samir Nasri
The Manchester City midfielder has been included in a France squad for the first time in over a year.
Injury problems and disciplinary reasons have kept him out of Les Bleus selection in that period … but Didier Deschamps has called him back up for the friendly with Belgium next week.
Bad week
David Moyes
The former Everton boss has not yet played a single competitive game as the manager of Manchester United, and already people have started questioning his ability.
With Wayne Rooney unsettled and Cesc Fabregas confirming he is staying at Barcelona things have not fared better on the pitch. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Swedish outfit AIK earlier in the week.
Hull City fans
Hull City fans woke up to the news this morning that the club has been renamed – Hull City Tigers.
I used to play for a team called Theale Tigers in the South Chiltern Minor League – and I was embarrassed by their name then.
What’s next?
The Fulham Cottagers, the Northampton Cobblers … Hartlepool Monkey Hangers.
Liverpool
This week Luis Suarez made it clear he wants to leave the club.
They remain adamant he is not for sale but this is a lose-lose situation for the Reds.
They either sell him, or keep a thoroughly unhappy player on their books.
If things couldn’t get any worse – teenage sensation Raheem Sterling has been arrested and charged with assaulting his girlfriend. He spent Thursday night in a police cell and has denied the charges.
Anzhi Makhachkala
The mega-rich Dagestan club are going back to the drawing board after their owner Sulemain Kerimov pulled the plug on the mega finances at the club and planned on going back to basics.
It comes after a poor start to the season and massive rifts between the foreign and Russian players in the squad.
Cardiff City
The Bluebirds will be licking their wounds after Tottenham Hotspur stole in for French international Etienne Capoue this week.
Who do you think has had a good and bad week in the world of football?
