David Beckham, Joey Barton, Wayne Rooney or Paolo Di Canio could be immortalised for their moments of match day violence in this crazy world.
Unless you are about seven years old or an absolute recluse you will know the incident I am talking about, football fan or not. In the 2006 World Cup final, Zinedine Zidane’s swansong from professional football he took offence to the ever baiting Marco Materazzi’s comments about his family, and, like one of those hard-topped dinosaurs continued to plant the top of his signature bald head into the solar-plexus of the talkative Italian.
He was sent off, the game went to penalties and Italy won, in what is surely one of the most memorable moments in sporting history.
Yet despite the overall result of that game, and ‘disgrace’ it brought on the curtain call of one of the greatest to play the beautiful game the French have immortalised the incident in bronze, as a giant five-metre high statue of the infamous coming together stands proudly in the French capital Paris.

Or Wayne Rooney’s stamp on Carvalho…

Or maybe this old gem from the mercurial Paolo Di Canio, poor old Paul Alcock …
Or maybe Nigel Winterburn’s cowardly flinching reaction deserves it more.
