Thierry Henry lead a host of ex-Premier League stars to light up MLS over the past week, with Robbie Keane, Obafemi Martins and Landon Donovan also helping their sides to crucial wins.
GK – Bobby Shuttleworth (New England)
The Revs keeper made two big saves on the weekend to keep a clean sheet and earn his side a crucial 1-0 home win over Chivas USA.
CB – Zach Loyd (FC Dallas)
Playing at centre-back, the versatile Loyd marshalled the Dallas back-line after a first-half red card to Blas Perez to help post a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake.
CB – Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy)
After scoring in Wednesday’s 3-4 win over Colorado, the Galaxy centre-back put in a dominant defensive performance to help shutout the Vancouver Whitecaps for a 2-0 home win.
CB – Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders)
Marshall has been a rock at the back for Seattle all season, with another fine performance against the Portland Timbers on the weekend helping his side to a 4-2 road win over their Pacific Northwest rivals.
RM – Sebastien Le Toux (Philadelphia Union)
The Frenchman has been a central figure in the Union’s recent resurgence under interim head coach Jim Curtin, with a goal and three assists in the 4-2 win over San Jose highlighting his importance to the lineup.
CM – Perry Kitchen (D.C. United)
Kitchen has quietly been one of the top players in MLS so far this season, proving why he’s been tipped for a US national team call-up in the 3-0 upset win over reigning MLS Cup champions Sporting KC.
CM – Dax McCarty (New York Red Bulls)
McCarty doesn’t receive many plaudits while playing on the same team as Thierry Henry and free-scoring Bradley Wright-Phillips, but his two-way performance in the 4-2 win over Montreal was just as influential.
LM – Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy)
As his farewell tour continues, Donovan continues to step up his game, netting a goal in each of LA’s games this past week to help Bruce Arena’s outfit to maximum points.
FW – Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders)
The former Newcastle striker was too much to handle for the Portland defence in their Cascadia Cup matchup, as he helped himself to a well-earned brace and assist.
FW – Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy)
Most would consider Keane the MVP front-runner at this stage, with a goal and three assists on the week further emphasising his case.
FW – Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls)
Henry continues to show why so many are urging him not to retire at the end of the year, as a brace and assist helped down Montreal and push the Red Bulls closer towards the post-season.
